Disarticulated Remains in Previously Flooded
Area
Christy Bergeon and Ariel
Houston, Texas
Person disappeared in September of 2000.
May of 2001 Christy and Ariel responded to a request by Law Enforcement to
search a previously flooded area for human remains.
Conditions were hot and humid. The trees were water stained 2 feet up the
trunks. Trees created a canopy effect on the area. Our search area was one acre
in size.
Ariel was brought in to the area and initially overwhelmed with scent. Areas
where she showed interest were marked for a fine search. She was given time to
acclimate to the search conditions. With a brief rest outside the area she was
brought back into the search area where she indicated on human bones. Seven
bones were found and helped put closure to this case, providing critical
forensic information for the autopsy.
There was cooperation and support from the Law Enforcement agency. A line
search was performed where one small bone was found. Ariel was called over to
verify it was human.
Learned from this search:
The area stayed flooded for months, created one big scent pool
Trees canopied over area, holding the scent up high
Animals had scattered remains, decomposition occurred in a wide area
