Wolf Run Search Dogs - Susan Patrick & Titan (Also, Vi Hummel & Mercy), Tornado, Del Rio, Texas

I went to Del Rio Thurs began searching the residential area. It reeked of death but all we found was dead dogs and dead cats, chickens and some goats.

Fri I met up with Vi and her dog Mercy and we flew by Chopper to a debris pile along a river that was about 40 ft high or more. It was literally the remnants of entire houses piled on top of each other.

Both Titan and Mercy had a hit on top of the pile, and we asked that they get some of the layers off so we could get closer. By Sat morning they had done that, so they took me back in there by 4 wheel drive. Overnight they had built a road. The construction company was really an amazing group.

After about 10 minutes of searching Titan started heading downhill about 30 ft from the original spot where both Mercy and he hit the day before. Titan went all the way to the edge where it drops down to the river, stuck his nose in the debris and looked up at me with that " Hey Mom you want this stinky thing" look and oh by the way Can I have my ball now" !

He was so close to edge that I was concerned the debris would collapse with him, so I called him back and began inching my way out there on a small log. I get to the spot and stick a bamboo pole down there and hit something squashy...so I got my head down there (it was rank) and saw what I thought was a dead horse, it was so huge. I decide to ask Jamie (my assigned Look out) to look from his side since it appeared he could get a better view. Jamie said it looks like a hog then he backed up with big cow eyes and said oh s----, it's a man.

I immediately told Titan to search again. It didn't take him long to shove his snout down there so I could whoop it up and give him his ball....he was a HAPPY HAPPY Boy !

Now I can't say for certain this was the body that both Mercy and he hit the day before, but I suspect it was. Soon after that Titan and Mercy went into an area about 20 ft to the right (Facing the river) from where the original alert was on Fri and they both alerted strongly there. They were still excavating that spot when I left so I don't know if anything came up, but I really expect them to find one there..

The crew I worked with that day took excellent care of us and asked us to stay, but I had to come back to go to work Monday. I left Vi there by herself. I'll probably pick up behind her this next weekend.

Take Care
